In the heart of Lincoln our client decided to take a leap towards sustainability and energy independence by installing a solar PV system on their home. This case study explores the installation process, components used, and the impact on the homeowner's energy consumption and environmental footprint.
Client Profile
Location: Lincoln, UK
Type of Property: Detached home
Homeowner's Objective: Reduce energy bills, lower environmental impact, and harness solar energy for electric vehicle (EV) charging.
Components Installed:
14 Jinko all-black panels,
5kW Sunsynk hybrid inverter,
2 5.12kWh Sunsynk batteries,
MyEnergi Zappi2 EV charger
Installation Process
1. Initial Consultation and Site Survey
The process began with an initial solar consultation during which our solar expert established a thorough understanding of the client's current and future electrical needs.
Our solar experts evaluated the home's rooftop to determine its suitability for solar panels. The orientation, angle, and shading issues were carefully considered to optimise energy generation.
2. System Design
A customised solar PV system design was created to meet the homeowner's energy needs. The design included 14 Jinko all-black panels, known for their high efficiency and sleek aesthetics. The 5kW Sunsynk hybrid inverter and two 5.12kWh Sunsynk batteries were selected to enable energy storage, maximising the benefits of solar and further reducing their energy bills.
3. The paperwork bit
Our office team were able to complete all relevant applications on behalf of the client in order to proceed with the installation in line with DNO requirements.
4. Installation
Our team of MCS certified solar installers began the installation by carefully mounting the solar rails to the roof before securing the panels, ensuring structural integrity. The panel installation was finished with application of mesh bird proofing around all panels.
The Sunsynk hybrid inverter and batteries were integrated into the home's electrical system, allowing for seamless and safe energy flow, both to the home and back to the grid. These were located within the home's garage.
5. EV Charging Integration
To complement the solar PV system, a MyEnergi Zappi2 EV charger was installed. This intelligent charger can prioritise solar-generated electricity for EV charging, minimising grid reliance and further reducing energy costs.
6. System commissioning and handover
Once all components were installed, our team programmed the system to work in accordance to the client's needs.
The client was given a full run-through of the system's functionality and essential information, as well as a comprehensive handover pack including warranty documents, maintenance information and other key documents.
Results and Benefits
Energy Savings: The solar PV system significantly reduced the homeowner's monthly energy bills, leading to substantial long-term savings.
Energy Independence: With energy storage provided by the Sunsynk batteries, the homeowner gained independence from the grid.
Environmental Impact: By harnessing solar energy and reducing grid reliance, the homeowner reduced their carbon footprint and contributed to a more sustainable environment.
EV Charging Efficiency: The MyEnergi Zappi2 EV charger optimised the use of solar energy for vehicle charging, further reducing the environmental impact of transportation.
