Case Study: 6.24kW Solar, Battery Storage and EV Charging – Complete Home Energy Installation – Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Project Overview
When this Huntingdon homeowner decided to invest in solar, they wanted more than just lower electricity bills. Their aim was to improve the appearance of their roof, install a high-performance renewable energy system and future-proof their home for electric vehicle ownership.
Before any solar panels were installed, the customer requested that the roof be professionally cleaned and treated. This not only enhanced the appearance of the property but also ensured the roof was in excellent condition before the solar installation took place.
Solar panels stay in place for 25 years or more, and once the array is fitted, the roof beneath it is effectively sealed off. Cleaning and treating the tiles beforehand means the panels sit on a sound, well-maintained surface from day one.
Optimum Electrics designed and installed a bespoke solar PV and battery storage system, complete with an integrated EV charger, giving the homeowner everything they need to generate, store and use their own renewable energy.

Installation Process
The project began with a comprehensive roof cleaning and treatment, removing years of dirt and organic growth before any equipment was installed.
Once complete, our installation team fitted the 13 AIKO Neostar 3S all-black panels using the premium Fastensol all-black mounting system, creating a sleek, uniform appearance across the roof.
Each panel was paired with a Tigo optimiser, allowing every module to operate independently. This helps maximise system performance, particularly where shading or differing panel conditions may otherwise reduce generation.
Inside the garage, we installed a 6kW Sigenergy Hybrid Inverter alongside a 10kWh Sigenergy Battery, allowing excess solar energy to be stored for use during the evening or periods of low generation.
To complete the home's renewable energy ecosystem, we also installed a Sigenergy 7kW AC EV Charger, enabling the homeowner to charge their electric vehicle using the clean electricity generated by their own solar panels.
Finally, all-black bird protection meshing was fitted around the array to prevent birds nesting beneath the panels, protecting the installation and reducing future maintenance requirements
Why We Chose These Products
Solar array
13 x AIKO Neostar 3S 480W all-black panels, giving a total capacity of 6.24kWp. AIKO's Neostar range uses ABC (All Back Contact) cell technology, which moves the electrical contacts to the rear of the panel. The result is a clean, uniform black face with no visible busbars and some of the highest efficiency ratings currently available in residential solar.
Panel-level optimisation
Each panel is paired with a Tigo optimiser. If one panel is affected by shading, dirt or debris, the rest of the array continues generating at full output. Tigo also provides panel-by-panel monitoring, so both the customer and our team can see exactly how each unit is performing.
Inverter and battery
A 6kW Sigenergy SP Hybrid Inverter manages the system, paired with 10kWh of Sigenergy battery storage. Excess daytime generation charges the battery for use in the evening, and the modular Sigenergy platform means additional battery capacity can be added later if the household's needs grow.
EV charging
A Sigenergy 7kW AC car charger completes the installation. Because it shares the same ecosystem as the inverter and battery, the whole system is managed through a single app, including the option to prioritise solar generation when charging the car.
Results & Benefits
This installation now provides the homeowner with:
Significant reductions in electricity bills
Renewable energy for both the home and electric vehicle
10kWh of battery storage for greater energy independence
Enhanced solar performance through individual panel optimisation
A clean, modern appearance thanks to all-black components throughout
A professionally cleaned roof that complements the finished installation
Conclusion
This project is an excellent example of how a solar installation can be about more than simply generating electricity.
By combining roof restoration, premium AIKO solar panels, Tigo optimisation, Sigenergy battery storage and EV charging, Optimum Electrics delivered a complete renewable energy solution that improves the home's appearance, reduces running costs and prepares the property for a more sustainable future.
