Case Study: High-Capacity Sigenergy Battery Storage System – Northampton

Sigenergy battery installation in Northampton

Project Overview

This Northampton home faced a common challenge: extremely high energy bills but very limited roof space for solar panels. With velux windows, dormers, and multiple extensions restricting available roof area, installing a traditional solar PV system wasn’t feasible. Yet, the household’s electricity demands were significant—underfloor heating, an electric vehicle, an immersion tank, a swimming pool, a hot tub, air conditioning units, heat pumps, and electric cooking all combined to create an average daily usage of 134kWh.

To tackle these high energy costs and make the home more efficient, Optimum Electrics recommended a battery-only storage system, designed to store energy during off-peak hours and power the house during the day.

System Design

The battery storage system was carefully tailored to meet the home’s demanding energy requirements:

  • System Size: 14kW

  • Components:

    • 1 x 8kW Sigenergy Hybrid Inverter

    • 1 x 6kW Sigenergy Hybrid Inverter (paralleled with the 8kW inverter for extra capacity)

    • 96kWh Sigenergy Battery Storage

By running the battery system overnight using the cheap electricity tariff, the household could significantly reduce its daytime electricity consumption from the grid.

Installation

The installation was completed in one day, with our team carefully integrating the high-capacity Sigenergy battery system into the property. Despite the home’s complex layout and high energy demand, the installation was seamless, allowing the family to start benefiting from reduced energy costs immediately.

Results

Since the installation:

  • Energy bills have dropped from over £1,500 per month to around £300 per month.

  • The household now runs predominantly on stored off-peak electricity, dramatically reducing reliance on expensive daytime rates.

  • The system has provided flexibility and scalability, meaning the homeowners can still add solar panels in the future if roof space becomes available.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates that even in homes with very limited roof space, high energy demand doesn’t have to mean high energy bills. By installing a high-capacity battery storage system, Optimum Electrics was able to provide a practical, cost-saving solution for a home that was previously facing unsustainable electricity costs.

For homeowners in Northampton and across the UK looking to reduce their energy bills without a full solar installation, battery storage systems can be a game-changer.
