Project Overview
Optimum Electrics completed an electrical refurbishment of the sports pavilion and changing facilities at The King’s School in Peterborough.
The project involved a complete rewire of the building, replacing the existing electrical infrastructure with a modern installation designed around the needs of pupils, staff and visiting sports teams.
Our scope included new lighting, emergency lighting, ventilation supplies and small power throughout the pavilion and changing rooms.
Scope of Works
The electrical package included:
Complete rewire of the sports pavilion
Electrical refurbishment of the changing rooms
New internal lighting
Emergency lighting installation
Power supplies for ventilation systems
New socket outlets and small-power circuits
Electrical distribution and circuit protection
Testing, inspection and commissioning
Certification and project handover
Rewiring the Sports Pavilion
The existing electrical installation was replaced as part of the wider refurbishment of the pavilion.
Our electricians installed new cabling and distribution infrastructure throughout the building, creating a safe, reliable system suitable for a busy school sports facility.
The installation was planned around the layout and purpose of each area, including the changing rooms, circulation spaces and supporting facilities. Power and lighting positions were carefully coordinated with the building finishes, equipment and wider refurbishment works.
New Lighting Installation
New lighting was installed throughout the sports pavilion and changing rooms to improve visibility and create a brighter, more welcoming environment.
The fittings were selected to suit the demands of each space. Changing rooms and communal areas required clear, consistent illumination, while practical and durable lighting was needed in areas exposed to regular use and higher levels of moisture.
The new installation provides effective lighting throughout the building while offering improved reliability and energy efficiency compared with the previous system.
Emergency Lighting
A new emergency lighting system was installed to support the safe evacuation of the building in the event of a power failure or emergency.
Emergency fittings were positioned along escape routes, near exits and within other required areas of the pavilion. The system was fully tested and commissioned to confirm that it provided the necessary coverage and operated correctly.

Ventilation Supplies
Changing rooms and associated facilities require effective ventilation to manage moisture, odours and air quality.
Optimum Electrics installed the electrical supplies and connections needed to support the new ventilation system. The ventilation controls and power requirements were coordinated with the mechanical installation to ensure the equipment could operate safely and effectively.
This helped create a more comfortable environment while reducing the risk of condensation and excessive moisture within the changing facilities.
Small Power Installation
New small-power circuits and socket outlets were installed throughout the pavilion to support its everyday operational requirements.
The positions of the outlets were coordinated with the final room layouts and the equipment used by staff, pupils and maintenance teams. Dedicated supplies were also provided where required for fixed equipment and building services.
The result is a practical and flexible power installation capable of supporting the continued use of the facility.
Working Within a School Environment
Delivering a major electrical refurbishment within a school required careful planning and coordination.
Our team worked closely with the main contractor, school representatives and other trades to ensure the electrical installation progressed alongside the wider refurbishment programme.
Access to the working areas was carefully managed, and the installation was completed in planned stages to maintain a safe site and minimise disruption to the school.
Testing and Completion
Following the installation, all new circuits, lighting, emergency systems and power supplies were inspected and tested.
The completed installation was commissioned and certified before the refurbished sports pavilion and changing rooms were handed back to The King’s School.
The Completed Result
The project delivered:
A complete rewire of the sports pavilion and changing rooms
Modern and reliable electrical distribution
New lighting throughout the facility
Emergency lighting along escape routes and at exits
Electrical supplies for the ventilation system
Practical small-power provision
A fully inspected, tested and commissioned installation
The completed refurbishment provides The King’s School with a safer, brighter and more
efficient sports facility designed to meet the ongoing needs of pupils, staff and visitors.
